How it All Started.
In a deep visionary thought, Ayo Ajayi, on February 20, 2015, created a WhatsApp group to keep up with friendships that had started decades back at Obafemi Awolowo Unversity, Ile-Ife, Nigeria.
The Whatsapp group soon evolved into a social and welfare club, duly registered and incoporated by the CAC
At the beginning, the group had as administrators Ayo Ajayi, Michael Jetawo and Chuks Gwam. These gentlemen organised the first reunion in April, 2017 at the Ibeju-Lekki seaside village of Iberekodo. A hugely successful one as it was also an emotional one.
A group member, Dipo Famakinwa was ill, on hospital bed. Sadly we lost him barely a week after. God bless his soul.
With the formalised association - “Brothers for Life” - came what we refer to as “Ogunsusi Constitution”. Board of Trustees was constituted with members; Femi Oshoniyi (Chairman), supported by Gbenga Olunloyo, Dimeji Abioye, and Wale Salami, as members.
Subsequently, an executive body was elected into office, Ayo Ajayi, President; Michael Jetawo, Vice President; Kunle Olaboye, Secretary General; Chuks Gwam, Provost Marshall; Ayo Ogunsusi, Legal Adviser; Kola Alaga, Director of Socials and Welfare; Lanre Idris, Treasure; and Tosin Animashaun, Director of Finance steered the ship for a two year term in the first instance and another one for a job well done.
That team was able to put the feet of the club firmly on ground. Brick and mortar... and BfL has become probably the most fun to be OAU alumni club.
There has been management transitions, building on successes.... and the beat goes on...
The motto of Brothers for Life is “Custos Fratris “ - my brother’s keeper.
